About the Journal

Journal of Food and Fibre Production (J. F. & F. P.) publishes high-quality commissioned and noncommissioned articles, in English, in all areas of agriculture including soil science and land resources management, stored products research, tree fruit production, pest management, post-harvest biology and technology, seed science research, agricultural engineering, food chemistry, food microbiology, food technology and processing, biotechnology, agronomy, animal science, anatomy, physiology and morphology, crop science, dairy science, entomology, aquaculture, fish and fisheries, forestry, horticulture, livestock science, systematic biology, veterinary science, weed biology, agricultural economics, extension services and agribusiness. Manuscripts on economic and ethical issues relating to biotechnology research are also considered. All articles published in J. F. & F. P. will be peer-reviewed. Articles must present scientific results that have not been published or submitted for publication elsewhere. J. F. & F. P. is a publication hosted in the Faculty of Agriculture, Umuahia Campus, Abia State University, P.M.B 7010 Umuahia, Nigeria. This Journal is published twice in a year.

Manuscript Preparation

List all authors and their affiliations. Supply the corresponding author's full mailing address, email address, and telephone or fax number. Apply continuous line numbering to every page.

    Paper Title and Authors

    Give the paper title, each author's name and institutional affiliation or address.

  2. 2

    Abstract

    Summarise the study in no more than 300 words on a page by itself. Include the aims, methodology, results and conclusions in one single-spaced paragraph. Communications may omit an abstract.

  3. 3

    Keywords

    Provide appropriate keywords for the manuscript.

  4. 4

    Introduction

    Set out the problem addressed, the current level of knowledge, the aims of the study and any hypotheses tested.

  5. 5

    Materials and Methods

    Include all materials and methodologies used to allow the study to be replicated.

  6. 6

    Results and Discussion

    Present data concisely in tables and figures, discussing it in the context of available contemporary literature.

  7. 7

    Conclusion

    Justify the aims of the study and, where appropriate, explain its significance.

  8. 8

    Acknowledgments

    Optional.

  9. 9

    References

    Cite references in the text and list them alphabetically in the reference list.

Reference Style

References should be cited in the text, for example (Okorie 1999; Osondu 2005) or Okorie (1999) and Osondu (2005), and listed alphabetically in the reference list.

Types of Submissions

The Journal of Food and Fibre Production welcomes original research articles, short communications, review articles, letters to the editor and commentaries.

Original Articles

Original research presented comprehensively, including an introduction, repeatable methodology, results and discussion. A full paper should be only as long as needed to describe and interpret the work clearly, and must not exceed 15 pages.

Short Communications

Brief but significant research, including new models, innovative methods, designs or techniques. Include an abstract. A short communication must not exceed 8 pages.

Reviews

A critical evaluation of defined, contemporary research in an area where the author has made a significant contribution. Reviews should be concise and no longer than 6 printed pages.

Review Process

All submitted manuscripts will be peer-reviewed by three anonymous referees. The Editorial Board reserves the right to appoint reviewers. Accepted manuscripts may receive further editing from the Journal's Editorial Board or staff before publication.

Publication charges

A ₦10,000 handling charge accompanies submission. Accepted manuscripts attract a ₦20,000 article processing charge for up to 15 double-spaced pages. Each extra page attracts ₦1,000. Payment does not determine acceptance; only peer-reviewed, accepted papers are published after payment evidence is submitted.

Preparation of Manuscripts

  • Submit in Microsoft Word using 12-point Times New Roman.
  • Use double spacing throughout, including references, tables and figure legends on A4 paper.
  • Number pages consecutively from the title page to the references at the top right, with ample margins.
  • Avoid footnotes, addenda and appendices unless essential; briefly incorporate important material into the text.
  • Italicise scientific names, giving the full name at first mention and an abbreviated form afterward.
  • Use metric or International System of Units. Abbreviate units only beside numerals; otherwise, spell them out.
